John Jr visits The Washington Monument

John Jr., just one year old, with hair so brown, Set off for D.C., a city of renown. In a stroller he sat, with eyes wide and bright, Ready to see a monument, a magnificent sight.

They reached the great obelisk, standing so high, Touching the clouds, reaching for the sky. John Jr. gazed up, his mouth open wide, At the Washington Monument, filled with pride.

His mom told him stories of George Washington's fame, And how this tall monument got its name. Built of marble and granite, a sight to behold, A story of freedom, bravely and bold.

Around it, flags fluttered, one for each state, Waving in the breeze, looking so great. John Jr. clapped his hands, laughing with glee, A more beautiful sight, he never did see.

Into the elevator, they quickly stepped in, Up to the top, with a spin and a grin. In just over a minute, they reached the sky, John Jr. thought they could almost fly.

From the top, the city lay small and wide, John Jr. looked on, his eyes open wide. He saw the whole city, from east to west, This adventure, by far, was one of the best.

Back down they went, the ride just as fun, John Jr.'s adventure was almost done. But in his heart, the memories would stay, Of the monument visit, a perfect day.

Back home they went, under the setting sun, Talking of adventures, this one number one. John Jr. fell asleep, dreaming of the day, When he visited the monument, in such a grand way.
