A Day at the Park

Who’s a stranger? A lesson for Lilly and Leo

Lilly and Leo loved playing at the park. They swung high on the swings and raced down the slides. One sunny day, they decided to have a picnic under the big oak tree. As they enjoyed their sandwiches, a friendly-looking man approached them. He smiled and asked if they wanted to see his cute puppy.

Lilly was excited about the puppy and wanted to see it. But Leo remembered what his mom always said about strangers. He gently pulled Lilly back and whispered, 'We should ask a grown-up first.' Lilly nodded, understanding that safety came first. They decided to find Lilly's mom, who was reading on a nearby bench.

Lilly's mom was proud of them for being cautious. She explained that not all strangers were bad, but it was important to be careful. She taught them to always tell a trusted adult if a stranger approached them. Lilly and Leo practiced saying, 'No, thank you' and walking away. They felt more confident and knew they could always ask for help.

Later, Lilly and Leo saw the man talking to a park ranger. The ranger had found the man's lost puppy! The man thanked the ranger and waved at Lilly and Leo with a smile. They waved back, feeling glad they had been safe and smart. As they skipped home, they promised to always look out for each other and stay safe.
